About

Social Networking Online Since 1984, Building Web Sites since 1994, Blogging Since 2002

Kelby Carr and daughter in BarcelonaI am a writer, SEO expert, social network maven/creator, pioneer of the social mom blog and former investigative newspaper reporter turned new media mom. I am the publisher of a network of parenting web sites (see below for a complete list). I am the founder and hostess of Type-A Mom Conference, and I operate a service to connect mom bloggers and companies in an ethical way, Momtent. I’ve been geeking it out on computers since I was 10 (and you had to use an audio tape to run software), and I’ve been web publishing since the early 1990s (when I had to create pages from code in Notepad). I started blogging in 2002.

I started social networking online on bulletin board systems, and I bring a rare long-term view and experience level to social media consulting. My social footprint includes more than 21,000 Twitter followers, about 1,400 Facebook friends and more than 500 LinkedIn connections.

I am a trainer and speaker, presenting on subjects such as blogging, social media, Twitter, SEO and outreach to mom bloggers at BlogHer, BlogWorldExpo, ConvergeSouth, BlissDom and Social Media Business Forum. I was named one of the 50 Most Influential and Powerful Women in Social Media, am a member of a Nielson advisory board on mom bloggers, and I was voted Most Social in Social Media and Best Mommy Blogger by Mountain Xpress newspaper/Blog Asheville.
