There is ample opportunity for one or both parents to work at home. It was important to us that one of us was home. It was a business that my wife took up that gave her, and now me the opportunity to stay at home with the kids. I know I had to quit my day (and night for that matter) job in order to make it work for me. Here is to working at home!! You know, what DOES bug me is that we shouldn't HAVE to make it happen by starting our own business or going on our own. Businesses should make it possible for us to do it as employees. Not every parent has the ability, determination, or even the know-how to be an entrepreneur. And then there are also all the other considerations when you go the non-employee route (health care costs? $1K a month in this WAHP fam). But hey... when there comes a day that there is a labor shortage because most parents in 20s, 30s, 40s etc. (hint: main labor force age range) are becoming self-employed, maybe then the companies will "get it."
