I loved your post (checking you out for the first time). I am tied to a job for the pension; too many years invested to leave. Working from home just one or two days would help.We are adopting and starting over at the ripe old age of >50. Loves of love and cuddles during our retirement years! Help!!!

Yes, that is true for Moms and Dads alike. There is ample opportunity for one or both parents to work at home. It was important to us that one of us was home. It was a business that my wife took up that gave her, and now me the opportunity to stay at home with the kids. I know I had to quit my day (and night for that matter) job in order to make it work for me.
Here is to working at home!!

Thanks guys for your support of my mouthy opinionated post. ;)

And Jeremy, thanks for your comments! You know, what DOES bug me is that we shouldn't HAVE to make it happen by starting our own business or going on our own. Businesses should make it possible for us to do it as employees.

Not every parent has the ability, determination, or even the know-how to be an entrepreneur. And then there are also all the other considerations when you go the non-employee route (health care costs? $1K a month in this WAHP fam).

But hey... when there comes a day that there is a labor shortage because most parents in 20s, 30s, 40s etc. (hint: main labor force age range) are becoming self-employed, maybe then the companies will "get it." Maybe.

Thanks for mentioning Dads too Kelby! Similar to your experience, I was not able to work from home, until I created the opportunity to do so for myself. Having a skill, like writing, and an entrepreneurial spirit may allow for many Moms and Dads to work from home on their own businesses, but it makes sense for more corporations to embrace the concept as well. Seems like the main thing a company would need to do is establish a new means of monitoring and measuring performance, which is linked to productivity and not activity. For me, that would be awesome because, like you, I take care of our kids during the day and have to work at night/naps.

Anyway, glad that you're talking about this, and I hope that Type-A Mom is a HUGE success for you!
